Questions about serving Sous Kitchen meals at home

How do I know if my food is cooked properly?
We recommend cooking times, but since all ovens and stoves are unique, use an internal thermometer to ensure food is cooked properly. According to the San Mateo County Health Department, food must be cooked to at least following temperatures and must be held at the temperature for at least 15 seconds:

  • Poultry: 165°F
  • Casseroles: 165°F
  • Stuffing, stuffed meats or fish: 165°F
  • Ground and injected meats: 155°F
  • Pork, Veal, Beef or Lamb: 145°F
  • Seafood: 145°F
  • Cheese, fruits and vegetables: 135°F

How long can I keep an entrée in my freezer and still use it?
To ensure maximum freshness and flavor, Sous Kitchen recommends that entrées are used within six weeks. Return to top

What quality of ingredients does Sous Kitchen use?
We use the kind of ingredients that matter: fresh, top quality and all natural. Vegetables, spices and meats are delivered daily from local purveyors. Our meats are fresh and all natural with no added hormones, artificial ingredients, colors or fillers. They were raised without being fed animal products. We purchase only sterling choice or higher grade beef. Some of our seafood, such as our salmon, comes to us fresh. Other seafood is frozen when caught. So, it is freshest at your table if we purchase it frozen. Return to top

I’m pregnant. Do you use pasteurized cheese?
We know pregnant women worry about the food they eat. No need to worry, since we only use pasteurized cheese for our entrees and sides.Return to top

What is the benefit of Sous Kitchen having a commercial kitchen on site?
Many recipes require multiple and time consuming cooking steps. These steps add flavor and complexity but also time and dirty dishes. So, the Sous Kitchen chefs and kitchen staff use our kitchen to do this prep cooking to make sure you have all the flavor of truly homemade meals without all the shopping, prep work and clean up. How much does Sous Kitchen food cost?
All Sous Kitchen entrees are priced individually. Depending on how much your family eats, Sous Kitchen entrées can cost as low as $5 per serving. In addition to serving affordable meals, our research shows that purchasing just 5 Sous Kitchen meals can save you at least 10 hours in time spent meal planning, shopping, preparing and cleaning up. How many servings are included in a Sous Kitchen entrée?
We offer two convenient sizes, the large gattherings size that will serve 7 to 8 people and a medium which serves 3 to 4 people. Serving size does depend on the appetites of those in your household. Return to top

Does Sous Kitchen offer vegetarian choices?
Yes. Every month we offer at least 4 vegetarian items – some are prepared with a delicious blend of vegetables and other include meat-free protein options. We use tofurky for our sausage-substitute, Gardein™ beefless and chick’n strips and Quorn™ Garlic & Herb Chik’n Cutlet. Return to top

I noticed you are vacuum-packing the meal kits. Why?
Sous Kitchen vacuum seals our meal kits to maximize freshness and flavor. We prepare and freeze all our meals the same day we receive the ingredients. This insures you receive the freshest, most delicious products available. Return to top

Where do Sous Kitchen’s recipes come from?
Sous Kitchen’s recipes are developed by a team of trained chefs, experienced cooks and food lovers. They are tested multiple times in our commercial kitchen and in home kitchens around the Bay Area. I have food allergies. How can I know what is safe for me to eat?
We most definitely pay attention to the allergies of our customers. All entrées from our menu lists each allergen in our meals. However, our facility does process nuts, tree nuts, gluten, shellfish and dairy. If you have questions, please call us at 650.344.7687. Return to top

What happens if I need to change or cancel my order?
We understand that schedules sometimes must be changed and we try to find the best solution for you. We require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or changes to your order with no charge. Cancellation with no notice will result in a cancellation fee (50% of the total cost of your order). Return to top

I forgot to pick up my order. Now what?
We send reminder emails for you to pick up your order. However, if you do forget, we are not responsible for replacing your meals. Return to top
